Here's my attempt at the folded star trivet. It needs to go directly into the garbage but it does look Christmasy and it certainly is thick enough to use as a trivet so it stays until Jan 1.

Once I started this I realized I have done this before but it was on the lid of a cookie tin. They make neat tins for keeping stuff in or giving gifts in. But my tins turned out way better than this. When I made the tins I had no conception of what they were costing me in fabric for one thing. Geesh! Some girl on Etsy has them for sale for $7.95 I couldn't even make it for $7.95. I think what it was costing was distracting me from doing a good job. We had extra expenses last month which is exactly what you don't need right before Christmas.

It is lovely! When I saw the pattern, I wondered if it was the same pattern as you used on the tin you sent me a few years ago! I use it to hold my hand-quilting thread and pins -- in other words, all the time! It is one of my favorite things! :o)
I will take a pic of my tin and post it on my blog... :o)))

Okay, so it's a little wonky looking, but who cares! Wonky stars are all the rage right now. Put a hot plate on it and it will be just fine!
I'm guessing that the hardest part was putting the circular binding on it. I saw this pattern and thought I might make the square version, but I didn't realize just how much fabric it takes! I guess it needs lots of layers in order to make it a usable hot pad.

I agree with Auntie Em. It is very nice. I like the fabrics and colors you used. By the way, here in this state the land taxes are due by the 21st of December....Merry Christmas?LOL

I agree, a little wonky, but you are brave to post it when you are not happy with it. I watched that video of this pattern that Molly posted not too long ago, and I was amazed at how much fabric it took. I love this pattern so I bought a quillow with this pattern from an Amish store for $50. Now that I know how much fabric and work it takes, I think I got a bargain. Karen

I think you're being too hard on your trivet. I think it's very pretty and it's going under something, so no one but you is ever going to see it up close. I love the colors you picked. Lane
